Partner Programming

A new educational institution, in partnership with The Freedom Center, that counters systems of oppression and alienation through practices of co-learning and co-action to advance the pursuit of higher goods, the formation of durable communities, and the generation of faithful, structural change.

PROTEUS: Faithfully Forward

As a North Carolina-centered coalition who has worked in the past together on fights for LGBTQ, voter, trans and civil rights, we have partnered with Sister Song & The Beloved Community Center to work with and within communities of faith to counter the negative effects of the toxic "religious exceptionalism" and white supremacist views that threaten the civic, political, spiritual and social rights of  LGBTQ people, people of color, women and people of low wealth.  This will be accomplished through a series of one-on-one's, trainings and media pushes, combined with support for those in need of resources to advance the fight for justice and equality.

Trans Seminarian Leadership Cohort is a yearlong leadership development program for transgender and genderqueer seminarians in the United States, co-hosted by the Freedom Center for Social Justice, the National LGBTQ Task Force, and the Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies in Religion at Pacific School of Religion. Our goal is to encourage trans students during their training for religious leadership so that they complete their degrees, feel equipped to follow their vocation, and also embrace the fact that their impact as faith leaders can and should extend beyond their chosen settings for ministry and service to include the welfare of the broader communities in which they live. This is the only program that we are aware of that addresses the unique challenges and gifts of trans seminarians.

The Lavender Interfaith Collective (LInC) is a vibrant and diverse community of LGBTIQ* and allied faith leaders, united across a rich tapestry of religious traditions and spiritual practices.

Through collaborative efforts, we aim to empower faith leaders and places of worship to:

  • Celebrate and uplift the inherent worth and dignity of LGBTIQ*, queer, trans, and nonbinary individuals.

  • Boldly engage the struggle for intersectional justice, inclusion, and equity.

  • Actively resist all forces of oppression, discrimination, and injustice, including but not limited to LGBTIQ-phobia, racism and Christian nationalism.

  • Foster and fortify resilience within communities and individuals, nurturing strength, affirmation, and hope.

* The term LGBTIQ is used as a working shorthand for all the diverse experiences of sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and sex characteristics which make up the myriad beautiful and complex diversity of humanity across languages, cultures and time.
