Anthony Freeman PhD (he/him) is the Senior Evaluation Specialist in the HIV Prevention Program at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. He is also a recent graduate in the Social Welfare PhD program at the CUNY Graduate Center/Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. His primary research interest lies in identity issues concerning Black and Latinx lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities. Anthony has served as a community rep on the New York State Taskforce on Black Gay Men’s Health, the New York City HIV Prevention Planning Group (NYC HPG) and UCHAPS. He received a master’s degree in Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University (SFSU) and bachelor’s degree from Hunter College with a double major/BA in Psychology and Media.
Anthony continues conducting similar work at his current position at the NYC DOHMH focusing on evaluation planning/design and implementation, applied research, sexual health policy analysis and community engagement. He currently teaches Gender studies and Africana studies courses at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and also trains providers around issues concerning gender, sexuality, technology and service implementation.
