Media Specialist Position Description

Part-Time with opportunity to advance to Full-Time

We’re seeking an ambitious and smart social & digital media expert to maintain and build upon our social media and communications platform.

Applicants must be completely familiar with Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, and other social media communities. In addition to social media, applicants must have experience with digital media and website development platforms like WordPress and Squarespace. You must possess excellent communication and writing skills, be team-oriented and enthusiastic about social media. Ability to write and manage press materials and events strongly preferred. Must also have basic understanding of graphic design and digital photography.


  • Manage the day-to-day activities of multiple social media campaigns and manage assets across these multiple social networks, including: Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google Places and other community sites
  • Analyze and extract actionable insights/trends from social monitoring data and community interactions creating a monthly analytics report
  • Identify opportunities that will promote growth and engagement on social media sites and contribute to and regularly update external social sites
  • Able to support programs, workshops and all activities sponsored by FCSJ to ensure visibility and to capture digital images for marketing and funder awareness
  • Use creative means to drive strong engagement and organic growth of all social media properties to convey a sense of community and build our following based on value-added content
  • Execute social marketing campaigns, including marketing new concepts, community-building efforts and promotions
  • Establish new and maintain existing social media relationships by proactively engaging in discussions surrounding our programs and objectives
  • Recommend and apply new social media tools, sites and apps as part of the social media mix to improve overall impact and efficiency
  • Work closely with the staff and Co-Directors to ensure we are fully leveraging our social media for maximum impact/results in the field
  • Update website as needed
  • Assist with fundraising efforts by working on donor support and on-line fundraising programs
  • Participate in programs, workshops and all activities sponsored by FCSJ to ensure visibility and capture digital images for posting
  • Develop quarterly newsletter


  • Proven Social & Digital Media Marketing Experience (preferably 1-3 years)
  • Familiarity with online social networking tools (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and blogs)
  • Able to oversee programs throughout project lifecycle
  • A self-starter who combines a high level of creativity with strong organizational skills
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ideally proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in WordPress
  • Ability to create and disseminate press releases
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications or Marketing preferred
  • Reliable transportation
  • Some travel required

Position Details

The Media Specialist is a part-time position with an expected workload of 20 hours each week and the potential to become a full-time employee in the future.
