Operations Manager

Hours: Full-time, based in Charlotte
Reports to: The Executive Director
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Summary of Position: The Operations Manager for the Freedom Center for Social Justice is a newly established position.  It is responsible for managing the organization’s resources, books and development process.


  • Work with ED to prepare organizational budgets.
  • Oversee accounting records and production of financial reports; monitor receipts, expenditures, and cash flow.
  • Manage bill payments and work with the CPA on year-end reporting and staff payroll matters
  • Work with the ED, board and staff to raise funds for support of the FCSJ, including assisting with grant writing and annual giving programs.



  • 4-year college degree strongly preferred but will accept experience.
  • Ability to articulate the connection of social justice to LGBTQ issues.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in financial management or a related field, paid or unpaid.
  • Understanding of, commitment to, and enthusiasm for social, gender, racial and religious justice.  Support for the transgender and LGB community.
  • Strong leadership and networking skills.
  • Strong organizational, managerial, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong financial skills, working knowledge of budgets and financial management.
  • Some knowledge of non-profit financial management and funds development a plus.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and manage stress satisfactorily.
  • Must live in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area or be willing to relocate (at your own expense).

Faith Coordinator

Classification: Salary/Full-Time

You will serve as the primary organizer for our faith-based programming. This position will engage clergy and laity directly, both one-on-one and in group settings.  Must be able to identify needs and provide targeted support for highest impact in the area of culture shifts between the LGBTQ community, communities of color and communities of faith.  You will coordinate training and organizing efforts that will help increase the number of safe spaces, protections and access for LGBTQ people in North Carolina.

The coordinator will manage faith-based initiatives and the Do No Harm Campaign.  This position will also serve in an advisory capacity to the Executive Director in related program and policy formulation activities.

Volunteer recruitment, management and retention will also be required


  • Reliable transportation a must
  • Ability to travel in the local, regional and national arena on an occasional basis. This travel may include overnight stays
  • Think strategically and be creative in the development of results-oriented programs and campaigns.
  • Manage competing deadlines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.


  • Four year, accredited degree preferred, but not required
  • Able to effectively multitask
  • Strong oral and written communication skills a must
  • Experience working with the LGBT community and communities of color strongly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Positive and persuasive leadership skills
  • Good team player
  • Comfortable working with various faith traditions and people of faith
